Feudalism
Feudal System
The Feudal System was the government that was formed during the Middle Ages. It was formed because Kings could not manage all their land by themselves, so they broke it up in to smaller sections called fiefs and appointed Nobles or Lords to manage and protect that section of the land. The Lords managed the land and protected the peasants, known as Serfs, in return for the Serfs working the land. The Lord, known as a Vassal, then provided the King with taxes and soldiers, known as Knights, to protect the land and who were loyal to the King. Serfs made up the largest group of people and they worked the land and farms.
The Feudal System was good for that time period because, there was so much disorder and chaos that, this system gave the people something they could turn to and trust to give them peace and protection. It was a better way to manage large areas of land and it gave people protection. It also divided up power so one person did not have all the power.

Knights had to follow the Code of Chivalry to show that they were not only brave and strong, but also had honor especially toward women. Knights had to be aggressive in battle, but show respect when not fighting. It was their code and defined who they were. If they didn't follow this code, there would be chaos and no control.
