The Kings of England
Six words that describe King William the Conqueror
Tapestry, Battle Hastings, Domesday Book, Conqueror.
I picked these words because they all relate to King William the Conqueror. The tapestry was created to tell the story of King William the Conqueror. He led the Battle of Hastings and created the Domesday Book which was a record of all the landholdings in England. He also built many castles throughout England.

Six words that describe King John
Greedy, cold-hearted, selfish, unfair, dictator.
I picked these six words because they describe everything I have learned about King John. He raised taxes, demanded more and more soldiers and treated his barons and subjects unfairly.

The Magna Carta
The Magna Carta was signed in 1215.
The Magna Carta was created to stop the king from abusing his power and causing suffering of the people of England. It limited the king's power when he was going overboard with it. It kept the king from over taxing citizens and treating them unfairly. It assured that the King would rule his subjects by customs and feudal law. It guaranteed that everyone, including the king, had to follow the law. The Magna Carta was created in response to King John's abuse of power by raising taxes and demanding more troops after he lost France.
The Magna Carta influenced the Bill of Right because there are things in the Bill of Rights that came from the Magna Carta. In the Middles Ages the king could decide punishment and the how bad it was for a citizen who the king decided broke the law. The Magna Carta limited the king's power to do this and some of those rules became part of the Bill of Rights.
Trial by jury guarantees that citizens will receive a fair trial by a jury of their peers, instead of the king or government. This is in the Sixth Amendment of the Bill of Rights.
The Fifth Amendment of the Bill of Rights guarantees citizens due process of law. This means that the government can't take a citizens life, liberty or property without following the due process of the law.
The Eighth Amendment of the Bill of Rights protects citizens from cruel and unusual punishment. This means that no citizen can be unfairly punished by the government
