Islamic Achievements
ISalmic Achivements in the Golden Age
- The Mathematics
- Art
- Medicine
- Geography
- Literature
- Science
I feel that science is the most important achievement because science influenced most of the other great achievements like the science of mathematics, medicine and astronomy. Scientific achievements helped advance medicine by using herbs, plants and other things to create medicines. Muslims believed that diseases and sicknesses were caused by an imbalance in the "humorous" which they believed was earth, air, fire and water. They discovered that alcohol can be used as an antiseptic and it is still used that way today. They also used science to develop important medical instruments like the syringe and forceps which are still used today in medicine.
They also invented a symbol for zero and organized the number system into the decimal system based on ten. They used the science of mathematics to create algebra, a mathematical method that is still used and taught all over the world today.
Muslims also used scientific studies to map out the solar system and geography. This was important for travel and trade and also for their religious purposes. It helped them create an accurate calendar so they would know when to pray according to the lunar calendar and also helped them identify when it was time for important religious festivals. They created observatories and instruments to measure the stars.
Earlier civilizations like the Greeks, Romans and Persians had an impact on some of these same achievements. The Greeks had many great achievements in science, medicine and technology. The Greek Theophrastus was known as the father of botany and his discoveries with plants was used to develop medicines. His method of categorizing plants helped the Muslims organize their research and made them ask questions. Greeks invented things like to pulley system and tools that are still used today. The Muslims studied these inventions and improved upon them. The Muslims translated and preserved the stories of Ancient cultures that inspired them. The Muslims studied these stories and theories and questioned them. This helped them learn and develop new things.

The Impact of the Crusades on Western Europe
The Crusades had a great impact on Western Europe. The Crusades brought an end to feudalism because many of the Lords went off to fight and die in the crusades and left the serfs on their own to do what they wanted to do. Kings gained power since the nobles were off fighting in the wars and started to set new laws. Crusaders also brought back new spices and materials from the crusades which created a demand for these things and created new trade. Europeans started to adopt Eastern ways of eating, dressing and fighting. Western Europeans also gained new knowledge made advancements in science, medicine, mathematics, arts, geography and literature.
